I’m a die hard SU fan, and SU lab alumni, born and raised in BR since 76, this years funk factory needs to play like they did in the 80′s. The loudness is not there like it used to be under Dr. Greggs. But Mr. Patrick is doing a decent job, but it needs improvement. I went to the TSU vs. SU game (game at mumford) and TSU had a smaller band and ripped the jukebox a new one on song choice. I miss the old EWF songs and the Tuba Transformer fanfare. JSU need to get they Tuba section to articulate better they were sloppy and all over the place.

i think its lame how people whould just talk down on any band other then themselves. SU is a very great band no doubt about it, but they also lack in areas jus as other bands do. i can speak on this because i for 1 has no favorite band i go to neither of these schools but i am a lover of good mucis. and from what i see form the clips is that southern is only tryna over power jsu, and they are and some people in the crowd likes that but then other hand there r people who loves the smoothness and balance of music, and that is not southern. i am 32 years old and i have never seen a band with so much brass. da balance of this band is 90% brass n highs 8% tuba and 2% woodwinds can u really say dats a balanced band u choose. OH N DONT PREECH TO ME ABOUT THIS BAND AND DAT BAND, NOT INTRESTED!!! ^_^ JUS WRITE UR OPINION N MOVE ON WITH LIFE GOOD JOB SU GOOD JOB JSU

Snake, I am fifty-one years old and have been listening to bands for forty years. I think I know a little bit about this, too. By the way, I’ve been playing for thirty-two years and no, I did not attend Southern.
Balance is dictated by the band director. The SU band prefers to be light on percussion and heavy on middle and upper brass. I have no problem with what they do. They are supremely confident and very entertaining. Their arrangements are the most challenging of any college band and that’s why everyone compares themselves to Southern; not FAMU….not JSU….PVAM or any other. Southern gives the crowd what they want….excitement. You are entitled to your opinion and your comments and your grammar are duly noted.
